SWALLOW is now 'on the hard' to receive her winter maintenance (so no cruising time is lost come warmer weather). Up she goes - https://www.instagram.com/p/BsJEGdKh8N_/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1oa8w234xoj0 Bottom fuzz and a few barnacles needed to be removed: Now the boatyard work (aka, 'fun') begins!
Not really a cruise but a repositioning. SWALLOW needs fresh bottom paint and a few other maintenance tasks completed. I'll do this work in Port Townsend so I've left Poulsbo and headed north. Winter travel means finding a weather window. The current pattern is a couple of days of strong winds, usually small craft advisory … Continue reading To Port Townsend

It is rare to find humpbacks this far south in Puget Sound. It was inspiring to watch this giant creature calmly swimming through these inland … Continue reading Whale!
Being on a boat means being aware of weather under way and at a moorage. Each morning and evening I listen to the weather radio for the forecast and observations. Summer weather is very consistent in the Salish Sea (Gulf and San Juan Islands and Puget Sound). If there is wind, and usually from the … Continue reading Weather awareness
